Ranjit Barot, a renowned percussionist, drummer, and music composer, acknowledges the dual nature of the information explosion and social media. He believes that while it empowers individuals, it can also lead to feelings of alienation. Barot suggests that some musicians who thrive on social media may lack the skills needed to succeed in real-world performances, while others, who do not engage effectively on social platforms, may struggle with anonymity. Having experienced various trends throughout his life, Barot emphasizes the importance of recognizing both the positive and negative impacts of each trend. He emphasizes the value of collaboration in personal growth, stating that surrounding oneself with talented individuals can drive improvement. Barot aspires to create music that can stand the test of time alongside works by artists like Sting, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Despite the rewarding aspects of his profession, Barot acknowledges that the music industry, while highly consumed by audiences, often provides meager financial rewards.Subscription services collect a monthly fee, with artists receiving only a small portion. Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a valuable tool for some, particularly those seeking convenience. Those proficient in their craft need not fear replacement by AI, as genuine talent and drive cannot be replicated by technology. The music industry could benefit from an increase in skilled artists to enhance its landscape. Despite challenges in the industry, there are pockets of high-quality music to be found. A notable influence for one individual was their mother, Sitara Devi, a renowned classical kathak dancer known for her determination and passion. This individual attributes their work ethic and drive to their mother's inspirational legacy. A unique musical performance titled "Beat Route," organized by director Roysten Abel and featuring rhythm maestro Ranjit Barot, will showcase the talents of ten folk percussionists from Rajasthan and Kerala at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on October 5 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
